What do we offer?

BB Photonics provides the design of Application-Specific Photonic Integrated Circuits (ASPICs) for OEM customers with demanding applications whose goal is to be a product leader in their market. ASPICs are the photonic equivalent of micro-electronic ASICs: integrated circuits customized for a particular use, rather than intended for general-purpose use.

How?

BB Photonics makes use of the EuroPIC technology platform. EuroPIC is built as an external technology network, which is a network of independent companies to share skills and costs. It consists of partners that are owner of the advanced infrastructure and know-how that is required for InP-based monolithic integration. All EuroPIC partners are committed to the concept of cost-sharing access to their infrastructure. By broadening the access to (expensive) InP-based photonic integration technology, R&D expenditures in monolithic integration can be leveraged. BB Photonics will use this leverage to provide enabling photonics technologies for its customers.

EuroPIC applies a holistic approach that addresses the full development chain from idea, design, fabrication, packaging and testing to application. In this chain, the idea and application (start en end point) are provided and owned by our customer. BB Photonics does the design and testing. The fabrication and packaging is provided by foundries.

To whom?

Target customers of BB Photonics are small and medium-sized enterprises with a need for application-specific photonic integrated circuits in their own prototypes or products but without the know-how and resources to develop these devices themselves.
